The purpose of this forum is to bring together the candidates from the two major political parties in Maine’s 1st district race to discuss issues of international relations, national security and foreign policy.  The goal of the event will be to highlight the candidates’ positions and thoughts on these vital issues, while allowing the public a forum by which to hear directly from the candidates. Rather than format the discussion in a traditional debate format, the forum will be structured so that the candidates will be able to give complete and full answers on their views of these important issues.

The structure of the forum will allow each candidate to sit with a moderator to discuss their views on issues of foreign policy, national defense, and international relations generally, while also giving the general public an opportunity for questions and answers.  Each candidate will be given roughly one hour in which to make their case, followed by the next candidate.

This candidates’ forum is sponsored in conjunction with the World Affairs Council of Maine, The USM Edmund S. Muskie School of Public Service, and the USM Department of Political Science. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and pre-registration for the event is recommended.
