Please join us  for a presentation sponsored by the Korean Economic Institute and featuring a panel of experts, one from the Republic of Korea Embassy Economics Sections who will focus on the status of the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement, a State Department Korea Desk speaker who will provide valuable insight into the US-Korea relationship under the Obama and Lee governments and Jack Pritchard,  President of KEI who will highlight current activities involving North Korea  as well as discuss the recent accomplishments of Korea  in becoming host for the G20 summit in November 2010 and pulling out of the economic crisis before most other countries.

Charles L. (Jack) Pritchard, President of th Korea Economic Institute(KEI)

 Prior to joining KEI, Jack was a visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC from September 2003 until February 2006. Ambassador Pritchard served as ambassador and special envoy for negotiations with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and United States representative to the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization in the administration of President George W. Bush from April 2001 until September 2003. Previously, he served as Special Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs and Senior Director for Asian Affairs in the administration of President William J. Clinton. During the Clinton administration, Ambassador Pritchard was also the Director of Asian Affairs in the National Security Council and deputy chief negotiator for the Four Party Peace Talks, which aimed at reducing the tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Ambassador Pritchard is a former United States Army officer and attaché in Tokyo, Japan. He retired from the U.S. Army in 2000 as a Colonel after serving 28 years on active duty. He received a B.A. in political science from Mercer University, Macon, Georgia; an M.A. in international studies from the University of Hawaii; and a diploma from the Japanese National Institute for Defense Studies in Tokyo. He is the recipient of the Defense Distinguished Service Medal.


Ms. Jennifer Roque, Foreign Service Office, US State Department


Ms. Jennifer Roque is currently working on the North Korea Desk in the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and is responsible for following the DPRK’s foreign relations and international and U.S. sanctions on North Korea.  Before joining the Korea Desk, Ms. Roque was assigned as a duty officer at the White House Situation Room, where she supported the President and National Security Advisor in foreign policy and national security affairs.  She has served as a watch officer at the State Department Operations Center, a political officer at the U.S. Embassy Minsk, Belarus, and a consular officer at U.S. Embassy Kingston, Jamaica.  Before joining the Foreign Service in 2003, Ms. Roque received her B.A. in Government from Harvard University in 2002.

Jongho Kyun, First Secretary

Economic Section, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, D.C. 

Mr. Jongho Kyun joined the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) in 1996, having served in Belgium and Sri Lanka as first secretary in the Korean Embassy. While at MOFAT headquarters in Seoul, Mr. Kyun was involved with issues pertaining to Korea’s G-20 and OECD membership as well as international trade.  He holds an MA in international affairs from Columbia University and a BA from Seoul National University. Mr. Kyun started work at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, D.C. in February 2010.
