About Us : World Affairs Councils of America
World Affairs Councils evolved after World War I out of the concern that Americans would choose an isolationist foreign policy over one of engagement. After World War II, this vision evolved into a national organization of independent community councils with a national office in Washington, D.C.
The World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) is a membership organization of 87 World Affairs Councils including the World Affairs Council of Maine. It organizes an annual conference at which World Affairs Council members meet with policy makers; develops programs for national use, including Great Decisions, NPR’s “It’s Your World,” and WorldQuest; and provides additional member benefits like international travel opportunities.
WACA hosts the annual National Academic WorldQuest competition in which The World Affairs Council of Maine sponsors a team.
