The World Affairs Council of Maine is pleased to announce its hosting of a Congressional candidates forum on October 16, 2008 at 7:30 pm at Talbot Hall (formerly the Luther Bonney Auditorium) on the USM Portland campus. The USM Political Science department and the Muskie School of Public Policy are co-sponsoring the event.
The forum, featuring Democratic candidate Chellie Pingree and Republican candidate Charlie Summers, will focus on international affairs, national defense and foreign policy. The forum will allow the candidates in Maine’s 1st district race to defend and highlight their views on these issues, while giving the general public the opportunity to ask questions and get answers from both candidates.
Moderating the forum will be Perry B. Newman, founder and Director of Atlantica Group, the international business consulting division of the Portland-based law firm, Pierce Atwood LLP. Prior to founding Atlantica Group in 2000, Perry was the first Director of International Trade and first President of the Maine International Trade Center.
The World Affairs Council of Maine is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the understanding of international affairs and supporting international education in Maine. Please contact the World Affairs Council of Maine at 207-780-4552 or executivedirector@wacmaine.org for more information regarding this event.
